How to save recipes from Instagram (and TikTok or YouTube) to your recipe book

You see a recipe you want, you save it to Instagram or you take a screenshot and, weeks later, you no longer remember where it was. The practical way to preserve it is to turn the video into a recipe with ingredients and steps that you can search, edit and plan.

From Reel to menu in five steps

  1. 1Open the Reel, tap Share, and choose Copy Link. If you have YouMealPlan installed, you can also share the link directly with the app.
  2. 2In YouMealPlan, open “New Recipe” and paste the link.
  3. 3Review the ingredients and steps that the AI has extracted. Correct quantities, instructions or any information that does not match the video.
  4. 4Save the recipe in your recipe book and add it to the day you want on the weekly menu.
  5. 5When you have finished the menu, generate the shopping list to group the ingredients by sections.

And if the video does not have the recipe written

AI is more accurate when the description includes ingredients, quantities and steps. If the creator only says them out loud or the video omits something, review the result and fill in any missing information by hand before saving.

Also works with TikTok and YouTube

The flow is the same: copy or share the link, paste it in New recipe, review what the AI extracts and save. You can also use links from Pinterest, web pages, or a photo of a recipe.

Frequently asked questions

Is Instagram video saved?

YouMealPlan saves the extracted recipe and the original link. The video remains hosted on Instagram.

Is the recipe drawn always exact?

No. AI helps transcribe and sort information, but you must review ingredients, quantities and steps before saving.

What do I do if quantities are missing?

Add them by hand when you know them. If the video does not provide them, it is not advisable to invent them: leave a note or look for the original source.

Can I also import from TikTok or YouTube?

Yes. Copy or share the link and follow the same steps.

How many recipes can I import?

The download is free and includes a daily quota of AI features. There is an optional subscription to extend that use.
